A MULTI-CENTER STUDY OF MINOCYCLINE IN ALS

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The purpose of this study is to test the safety, tolerability and effectiveness of minocycline (Minocin) compared to placebo (an inactive substance) in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. For four months, the patients will be examined and interviewed to establish the natural progression of their disease. They will undergo treatment for an additional 9 months to see if Minocin will slow the progression of ALS as compared to placebo.
