IMMUNE CORRELATES OF COGNITIVE FUNCTION IN SLE

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. This study is exploring immune measures in the blood of persons with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE; Lupus). Specifically, this study will be looking for potential relationships between different immune markers in the blood and types of cognitive impairments and memory impairments in persons with SLE and normal control participants. As a part of the parent study, participants with SLE and normal control subjects will undergo neuropsychological testing that will identify particular cognitive impairments in SLE. This supplementary study will include a single blood draw from participants completing the neuropsychological testing appointment of the parent study. The measurement of particular immune parameters in the blood will not only provide insight into the biological markers that are related to SLE compared with normal controls, but will allow for the identification of potential immune mediators of cognitive function in SLE.
