CLINICAL TRIAL: EFFECTS OF LOCAL GM-CSF IN-ADJUVANT ON DENDRITIC CELLS IN MELANO

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Vaccination efficacy against melanoma may be improved by incorporating cytokines as adjuvants. This pilot study was designed to analyze the effects of GM-CSF in-adjuvant administration on dendritic cells (DC) in the skin and sentinel lymph nodes of melanoma patients. The objectives are to determine whether:(a) maximal DC infiltration into the dermis occurs one week following administration of GM-CSF, (b) an increase in DCs at the site of injection is comprised of mature and immature DC, and (c) an increase in DC in the sentinel immunized node draining the injection site is comprised mostly of mature DC.
