英文摘要
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the
resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and
investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,
and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is
for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.
SPECIFIC AIMS
Primary Study Aims
1. To compare change (baseline to 6 months) in affect and sleep quality (using questionnaires) between the active treatment and the control groups.
2. To compare change (baseline to 6 months) in sympathetic nervous system activity (using measurements of resting heart rate, resting blood pressure, and resting levels of adrenalin and noradrenalin in the urine) and an index of cortical adrenal activity (using measurements of cortisol in the saliva and urine and waist-to-hip circumference ratio) between the active treatment and the control groups.
3. To compare change (baseline to 6 months) in chronic inflammation (measured by blood levels of C-reactive protein) and immune function (measured by salivary levels of immunoglobulin IgA) between the active treatment and the control groups.
Secondary Study Aims
4. To compare change (baseline to 6 months) in salivary melatonin level at bedtime between the active treatment and the control group.
5. To examine the correlations between change (baseline to 6 months) in affect and change in circulating cortisol and between change in salivary melatonin and change in sleep quality.
6. To assess whether the changes in stress markers achieved by the yoga intervention during the trial are sustained over the following 6 months (during the maintenance phase).
