A RANDOMIZED PHASE II TRIAL OF EPOCH (AIDS)

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. In pilot trials conducted at the National Cancer Institute, infusional chemotherapy with EPOCH (etoposide, prednisone, Oncovin, cyclophosphamide, hydroxydaunomycin (doroxubicin) is associated with durable complete remission in over 75% of patients with newly diagnosed AIDS-related lymphomas. The purpose of this trial is to determine if the addition of the monoclonal antibody rituximab to the EPOCH regimen will improve the complete remission rate and its durability in the treatment of newly diagnosed patients with AIDS-related B-cell lymphomas. In this multi-center trial sponsored by the NCI-AIDS Malignancy consortium, 70 patients will be randomized to receive either rituximab either given concurrently with ePOCH or as maintenance therapy.
