项目摘要
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the
resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and
investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,
and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is
for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.
For this proposal the investigators will utilize the existing facilities in the multidisciplinary Breast Clinic of Bellevue Hospital to develop a Women's Cancer High-Risk Clinic. They predict that such a clinic will provide an efficient resource for the prevention and early detection of cancer. The clinical aims of the study are as follows: 1) To be a resource of information on women's cancer, including the availability of a genetic counselor for women at risk for hereditary cancer, especially ovarian cancer. 2) To provide referrals for diagnostic tests and appropriate clinics involved in the early detection of cancer. 3) To provide access to clinical trials and investigational screening methods in cancer early detection and prevention, whenever applicable. The educational aims are the following: 1) To create a team of health professionals to assess the risk of the women who come to the clinic and provide them with the appropriate follow-up care. 2) To provide educational materials describing risk reduction, prevention, genetic testing and the importance of healthy lifestyle to the patients. 3) To seek and develop research protocols in the areas of early detection and treatment. 4) To develop a database of information compiled from the questionnaires and clinics for use in future studies.
