Project Summary/Abstract
This request for an administrative supplement to promote diversity will allow Dr. Teresa M Swanson to train as a
postdoctoral scholar in the Gordon lab. She will work on the TRPM2 project in the scope of the parent R35 grant.
This project addresses the molecular mechanisms governing Ca2+- and ADP Ribose-driven conformational
rearrangements in TRPM2 channels. Dr. Swanson will train directly under Dr. Gordon in the experimental
methods required: transition metal ion FRET using both steady-state and time-resolved fluorescence
measurements; using amber codon suppression to introduce unnatural amino acids; and patch-clamp
fluorometry. Work on this project will provide Dr. Swanson with excellent training to advance her career. She will
also participate in career development opportunities and programs to enhance diversity of the biomedical
workforce, as described in the training plan.
