New Cures from Old Medicines - Targeting abnormal metabolism in Alzheimer's Disease

The DREAM study began on 9/16/2019. 20 drugs have been tested for their ability to lower the risk of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD). These drugs are commonly used to treat conditions including rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, diabetes, hypertension and epilepsy. Encouraging results from several of the drugs tested are being confirmed through parallel validation experiments in cell culture-based assays and long-term in vivo studies in transgenic AD mouse models. These studies also include evaluation of candidate AD drugs for their ability to rescue impaired hippocampal synaptic plasticity in APP/PS1 mice.
