英文摘要
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the
resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and
investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,
and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is
for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.
EVALUATION
The overarching objectives of WV-INBRE are:
1. Establish a multi-disciplinary research network with a scientific focus that will build and strengthen lead and partner institutions
2. Build and increase the research base and capacity by providing research support to faculty, postdoctoral fellows and graduate students at the participating institutions
3. Provide research opportunities for undergraduate students and serve as a pipeline for undergraduate students to continue health research careers within IDeA states
4. Provide outreach activities to students at undergraduate institutions, and
5. Enhance science and technology knowledge of the State's workforce
The role of the Evaluation Core is to determine how well the above objectives of the WV-INBRE plan are being met. We are accomplishing these goals in the following ways: First, we monitor the publications, abstracts and presentations that accumulate as the result of INBRE support. In addition, we have constructed a database which will allow us to keep better account of INBRE activities, track the progress of our summer program undergraduates and monitor progress at all network institutions. The Outreach Core also provides data documenting the accomplishments and whereabouts of current and past participants in the summer programs. Network Research Institutions (NRI) progress reports are also monitored by the Administrative Core (AC) as well as by our External Advisory Committee (EAC), whose comments form part of the overall project evaluation. Progress by the NRI and Network Outreach Institutions (NOIs) are also assessed at the regular Steering Committee meetings through research progress reports presented by the Project Investigators. The Evaluation Coordinator visits INBRE Predominately Undergraduate Institutions (PUIs) and prospective PUIs where assessment information has been gathered. Evaluation retreats are held each year during which the AC reviews the progress of each NRI project, the Outreach activities and the role of the AC in the overall INBRE grant.
