Funding is requested for a transient absorbance spectrometer with nanosecond time resolution. The instrument is designed for measuring the rates of forward and back electron transfer in photosynthetic reaction centres and biomimetic complexes for solar energy conversion. The use of both a tuneable pump laser and a series of laser diodes give the spectrometer great flexibility and make it one of only a handful of similar instruments worldwide. It will also augment the picosecond fluorescence and time resolved electron spin resonance facilities at Brock establishing the institution as a leader in photosynthesis research.
