Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) is an extremely sensitive optical technique that allows the detection of the spectrum of a single molecule. The unique information provided by the molecular fingerprints of vibrational spectroscopy guarantees potential for application in a wide variety of fields including biology, medicine, pharmacy, sensing, nanoparticle and thin film characterization, and trace analysis.
