项目摘要
The global objectives of the project are two-fold. One, to develop a database and knowledge on which criteria for controlling low-back injuries due to rotation can be based. Secondly, through the results obtained, to develop a scientific basis and for formulation of treatment regimes for treatment of low-back pain patients. It is suggested that increasing asymmetry in complex bending-twisting motion increases the load on spinal muscles differentially and significantly. With increasing twisting, the onset of fatigue in spinal muscles occurs at times increasingly different from each other. With increasing twisting, the rate of progression of fatigue in different trunk muscles is also different. The difference in fatigue onset time and rate of fatigue in different trunk muscles results in muscle and mechanical imbalance setting the stage for injury. The specific objectives of the study: i. to develop a qualitative and quantative understanding of combined motion of flexion/extension and trunk rotation ii. to estimate a load sharing among trunk muscles during trunk rotation-flexion-extension in standardized static and dynamic activities at the the velocities of 15, 30 and 60 degress per second at various degress of rotation (20, 40 and 60 degress of twisting) iii. to determine the relative onset timing and rate of progression of fatigue amoung torso muscles leading to muscle imbalance and consequent hazard for injury of various degrees of trunk rotation (20, 40 and 60 degrees of twisting).
