英文摘要
Switching power supplies and electric motor drives, using power electronics technology, have become multi-billion dollar industries in the world today and the demand for high quality products is constantly increasing worldwide.  The desirable features of these products are:  small size, high power density, high efficiency, high reliability, insensitivity to parameter variations, low cost, robust performance and fast dynamic response.  The relentless pursuit of these goals is underway by researchers worldwide.  The major objective of this research program is to meet these challenges that are outlined as follows: -To implement new coupled inductor zero voltage switching techniques for power factor correction circuits in order to improve efficiency and power density. -To develop new robust digital control techniques for pulse width modulated power supplies and resonant power supplies to achieve robust performance, insensitivity to parameter variations, fast dynamic performance and to reduce cost. -To develop and implement new high efficiency gate drive circuits for power MOSFET switches to improve efficiency and power density in switching power supplies. -To explore new topologies and control techniques for high frequency AC power supply distribution for computing applications in order to improve efficiency, power density, dynamic performance and to reduce cost. -To develop high power density Brushless DC (BLDC) motor drives for application to industrial drives such as robots, servos and electric/solar cars. The research program will enhance knowledge in the field of power electronics and drives and will benefit the power supply and motor drive industries in Canada.
