A high-performance mixer is proposed to support research on the constitutive response of advanced cement-based composites, and the structural-response of structural elements built with these materials. In particular, it will support the controlled production of material classes including: lightweight cementitious foams, "traditional" concrete, fiber reinforced concrete, and Ultra-High Performance Concretes (UHPC) that are characterized by a dense cementitious matrix with very high volume fraction of short steel fibers. Experimental programs in progress at the University of Alberta emphasize the structural application of advanced cement-based composites for new construction using innovative structural systems, and the rehabilitation of existing concrete structures. The proposed equipment enables on-site production of concrete mixes that are specially tailored to the material properties (e.g., mechnical response, durability) that are required for the application investigated.
