The use of high-performance materials for concrete construction enables more sustainable construction practices through cost effective and durable materials. High-strength ASTM A1035 steel reinforcement and fibre-reinforced concrete both offer the potential for reduced reinforcement congestion compared to traditional reinforcing steels. Moreover, differences in the metallurgy of A1035 steel give it reduced corrosion susceptibility. These favourable conditions make high-performance materials viable options for construction of building or bridge components where strength, ductility and durability are all primary design considerations. However, despite the potential benefits of using these high-performance materials, available research to assess their viability in common structural forms is scarce. Research with A1035 steel has typically focused on simple span construction rather than the continuous multi-span or frame members commonly used in industry. Only limited information is available on performance of this steel as a composite system with fiber-reinforced concrete. In both cases the structural performance may be significantly impacted by the unique mechanical properties of A1035 steel including its higher peak strength, lack of yield plateau, and altered bond characteristics. System ductility and performance under seismic or other extreme loading is also a concern.** Analytical modeling with validation through companion laboratory testing will be used to target the most important gaps in knowledge of structural behaviour for common member types using these materials, including moment resisting frames and multi-span slabs or beams. Mechanics-based analytical models will be developed for predicting the local and global structural response of concrete members reinforced with A1035 steel with specific focus on the 'rotation hardening' characteristics of plastic hinges and the 'tension stiffening' characteristics of the composite concrete/steel configuration. A new deformation-based pushover design approach will be established for these structural configurations to enable design for seismic or other extreme loading cases in a manner that can also be extended to consider other reinforcement types. ****************
****************
