英文摘要
The Centre for Biological Applications of Mass Spectrometry (CBAMS) was established at Concordia University to support and promote research, and to provide students with hands-on training in the applications of mass spectrometry to diverse problems in biological chemistry. CBAMS currently houses seven mass spectrometers that were funded largely by grants awarded to Concordia researchers since 1994. Accessories for four of the mass spectrometers are requested in the current application to increase the range of experiments that can be performed as well as to improve the efficiency of the Centre.A microwave pressure digestion system is requested to safely and reproducibly prepare samples for ICP-MS on an instrument that was funded by CIHR for metal-ion analysis in biological matrices, and installed in CBAMS in 2006. A nanoLockspray accessory is requested to allow accurate mass measurements on the Q-TOF mass spectrometer purchased with NSERC funds in 2002. A new laser is requested for the MALDI-ToF, which was also purchased with NSERC funds in 2002. The current three-year-old laser is too weak for the analysis of many types of samples. A dedicated syringe pump and water cooler are requested for the triple quadrupole mass spectrometer that was installed in CBAMS in January 2007. This instrument (Waters Quattro LC) was donated to CBAMS by Pfizer in San Diego.  The requested items will not only bring additional capability to CBAMS, they will serve to increase the pool of users and to strengthen the role of CBAMS in research in the University. With the range of available mass spectrometers, CBAMS is the most comprehensive academic mass spectrometry centre in Canada. It is also unique in its dedication to the hands-on training of students and researchers.
