The use of chlorofluorocarbons and other ozone antagonists has been suggested to increase terrestrial UV-B radiation (290-320 nm) by thinning the stratospheric ozone layer. We have have shown that weedy species differ in their response to UV-B radiation and that this radiation significantly influences interaction of weeds with associated crops, weedy neighbours, and other components of their biotic environment. I intend to continue this line of research and explore some new but related areas to advance our holistic understanding of weed ecophysiology in an agroecological context.
