This proposal requests funding for the purchase of a triple resonance fluorine probehead for the Bruker Avance 400 solid-state NMR spectrometer in the Department of Chemistry at Université Laval. This probehead will allow the measurement of solid-state 19F NMR spectra with proton decoupling. In addition, several triple resonance experiments 1H/19F/X (X = N-C) will be accessible with this equipment. This probehead will be used extensively by the students and postdoctoral fellows of the research groups of M. Auger, F. Kleitz, J.-F. Morin, T. Ollevier, J.-F. Paquin and A.M. Ritcey. Examples of research projects that will be investigated with this equipment include the use of fluorinated lipids as probes of membrane topology, the determination of peptide structure and oligomerization in membranes, the study of lanthanide fluoride nanoparticles, the characterization of nanomachines working in the solid-state, the development of functional mesostructured and mesoporous materials and the synthesis of new Lewis acid catalysts.
