This application requests funding for the purchase of an ultraviolet-visible-near infrared spectrometer capable of measuring the electronic transitions of inorganic catalysts over a large energy range. The requested instrument will be used for the study of chemical reactions involving bimetallic complexes, and will allow for the study of active catalytic species, thus shedding light on reaction pathways. This important information will then be used towards the design of new and more active catalysts for industrially relevant small-molecule transformations.
