Replacement of floor centrifuge and rotor

At the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, McGill University, researchers share large and costly pieces of equipment such as a Phosphor Imager, a scintillation counter, a water system and centrifuges. In the past year, two of our floor centrifuges expired. The cost to repair these centrifuges is prohibitive, since they are beyond their lifetimes. Thus, all the NSERC-supported researchers of our Department submit this proposal for the purchase of a replacement floor centrifuge equipped with a highly versatile rotor that will both fulfill our application requirements and expand our centrifugation potential. The selected rotor equipped with various adaptors is suitable for centrifugation of large volumes, centrifugal filtration and centrifugation of microplates. Our six independent NSERC-supported research programs rely on these instruments for separation of cells, proteins and viruses, preparation of cell membranes and tissue homogenates as well as DNA isolation and purification.
