The occurrence of learning and forgetting effects is quite common in organizational environments that emphasize flexibility. Understanding and quantifying the process of learning and forgetting; known as the learning curve theory; provide means to observe and track continuous improvement efforts at organizations in various sectors. Thus far, researchers and practitioners have not yet resolved the issue of how learning and forgetting interact. Nor have they reached a consensus on an adequate performance measure of organizational knowledge. In addition, research on learning and forgetting has not yet provided answers to how the transfer of knowledge occurs among members in a team, and across different work teams in an organization.
