The construction and demolition (C&D) waste generated by the Canadian construction industry accounts for 27% of the total municipal solid waste disposed in landfills. However, over 75% of what the construction industry generates as waste has a residual value and therefore, could be recycled, salvaged, and/or reused. Landfilling construction waste materials is recognized as a threat to the environment; especially due to its impact on groundwater quality. In addition immense socio-economic and environmental impact is created by the construction waste. Recycling of waste material proves to be the most costly affair as it has to be transported to long distances in addition to the recycling costs. Hence, the most practical and economical option for waste material should be 'Reuse'.
