英文摘要
This application is requesting funds to purchase cell culture equipment. Cultured cells are now commonly used as a main experimental tool in many Cell Biology labs. They provide a translational system as well as the opportunity to perform techniques including RNA interference and immunoflourescence, in addition to biochemical techniques that can be troublesome in model organisms. Prior to Dr. Sacher's arrival at Concordia University, no laboratories in the Department of Biology were using cultured cells for their research programs. However, since joining the Department and acquiring some cell culture equipment, three laboratories now use cultured cells as part of their research programs. Furthermore, several other laboratories have expressed interest in using cultured cells now that they are accessible. The current facilities simply cannot handle this expansion of users and the equipment outlined in this proposal will drastically improve the research needs of the Department of Biology.
