Joining of materials by various techniques such as welding and brazing is an important technique to manufacture, and repair aero and power generation turbines. A major activity of Canada's multibillion-dollar aerospace industry is to manufacture and repair aircrafts and aero-engine components by different joining processes. Unfortunately, most of the metallic aerospace materials, such as aluminum, titanium, and nickel based superalloys are difficult to weld and braze, and crack during the process. A crucial step in finding solution for their joining problems is through a thorough understanding of the effect of processing parameters on microstructure of pre-joined and post-joined materials.
