Today the service sector represents 78% of the Canadian economy. Despite this significant trend to services, R&D investment in the sector has not kept pace. We still do not have adequate methods and tools for describing service systems and representing the interactions that take place between and within them. At the same time, service organizations are increasingly operating in a global arena. The desire to lower travel costs and reduce carbon footprints has led to a growing interest in the use of social media (Web 2.0) and virtual worlds (the 3D Web) to support interactions among the people involved in service systems.
