英文摘要
The proposed project is a multidisciplinary study to understand the timing and geologic setting of gold mineralization during the > 300 million year evolution of the North Caribou terrane, about 500 km north of Thunder Bay. The North Caribou terrane is one of the oldest crustal domains in the North American continent and remained as the nucleus during the assembly of the Canadian Shield through accretion and collision of numerous terranes. A stable land mass developed in the area prior to deposition of shallow water sediments on its margin ca. 3.0 billion years ago. These ancient sedimentary rocks were metamorphosed and deformed during subsequent tectonic collision processes, and now host gold in the Musselwhite mine. We will conduct detailed bedrock mapping and carry out geochemical analysis of samples collected in the field to unravel these events and identify the critical event that resulted in the gold mineralization.
