We request funding for an experimental mesocosm facility that will be located in Lac Hertel at the Mont St-Hilaire field station. Mesocosms are miniature experimental lake systems (here, bags containing several 1000 litres of lake water) that are set up within a much larger natural body of water. We propose an innovative mesocosm facility that can hold up to 24 experimental bags as part of one large floating dock. In addition, we will link individual bags or groups of bags using tubing and water pumps which enables the exchange of plankton organisms and dissolved nutrients among the experimental bags.
