英文摘要
Elementa Group is a Canadian company with head office in Niagara-on-the-Lake and pilot plant in Sault Ste. Marie. The company is developing its waste-to-fuel technology which is in the Syngas production field. The Company has focused its attention on conversion of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) to syngas and this will be the first technology to market. There are however, a number of promising feedstocks that should also be convertible to syngas using the Elementa technology. The pilot plant in Sault Ste Marie is relatively large scale and fully committed to optimizing conditions for MSW conversion. It would be advantageous to establish a relationship with the University of Toronto to explore whether a research program could be established that would allow syngas formation to be studied at a fundamental level the results of which could then be tested and validated at the pilot plant facility. The key objective is to determine whether Professor Jia's group in the University of Toronto can experimentally simulate syngas formation conditions used by the Elementa pilot plant and generate a similar syngas product. If this project is successful, then a collaborative research program will be established with the University to advance Elementa's goal of advancing its technology to accept a variety of feedstocks and hence entering a variety of new market opportunities. The Chemical Engineering Department at Toronto has a laboratory rotary kiln which will be the platform for the tests. The apparatus will be modified to accept an oxygen-free, inert gas feed and a product gas capture system. Temperature and solids residence time are able to be set with the apparatus and can be adjusted to match the pilot plant conditions. Operating conditions and experimental results from the pilot facility will be provided in confidence to
