Researchers at the University of Waterloo have developed a novel Text Summarization tool that extracts the most important concepts from natural text and can discriminate between non-important terms and terms which hold the concepts that represent the meaning of the text thereby providing an element of humanistic-like understanding of the text being analysed. The technology could be applied to a variety of applications and could benefit a number of markets such as by limited examples in the mobile market, where text summarization for a given search result is desirable for use in small handheld screens, or the technology could be used as content classification and text summarization tool for integration in existing customer relationship management (CRM) applications. This project involves undertaking an independent third party market assessment of the commercial opportunity for this novel Text Summarization technology in order to assist planning for follow-on commercialization efforts.
