项目摘要

Introduction: In west-central Alberta the Fernie Formation comprises a thin wedge of carbonate and siliciclastic rocks that is bound by unconformities and preserves basin to coastal plain environments. The formation accumulated on a westward facing ramp during most of the Jurassic Period, a lengthy span of 56 Ma. Towards the end of the Jurassic Period and the beginning of the Cretaceous Period the configuration of the basin changed into a linear trough that opened northward and was bound to the west by a rising highland, the Omineca Highland. As this highland rose the Fernie Formation was buried by clastic sediment contributions from the west, but it was also eroded and exposed subaerially along the eastern margin of the basin.
