英文摘要
Gold (Au) provides the basis for monetary policies and thus, plays an important factor in world economics. In addition, Au is a highly sought after high-tech metal with ~12% of the demand from industry (Gold's unique properties make it useful in medical applications, pollution control, laptop computers, space travel, etc). The Red Lake greenstone belt is one of Canada's chief Au producing regions, with a total gold production of over 19 million ounces from 13 mines. In the Red Lake district, Au exploration has historically focused along an E-W corridor (mine-trend) of variably deformed rocks that hosts most of the mines. Recent exploration along the East Bay trend, NE-SW corridor, however, has yielded exciting results and promises to contain important Au mines. Consequently, the goals of the proposed research are to: (1) map the structures that host Au mineralization in the East Bay trend and compare the structural characteristics with the other well-studied Red Lake deposits along the mine-trend (e.g., Red Lake, Campbell Mine), and (2) compare the geochronology and geochemistry of the mineralized zones along the East Bay trend with the deposits along the mine-trend. These data will allow us to understand fluid migration in the crust and the migration and source of Au.
