The equipment requested derives form the urgent need to upgrade the computing facilities at the Laboratory for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (LIAM) at York University. LIAM was established in 2001 and has since been providing a locus that builds the industrial outreach and fosters an intensive interdisciplinary training and research environment. The computing and data processing facility, funded in 2001 through the CRC-CFI Infrastructure Program, has been very much outdated, and the upgraded facility is urgently needed to improve the integrity and timeliness of the research and training at LIAM, within which current and future active research projects requiring substantial computing power include computational and geo-simulation of disease dynamics; spatiotemporal patterns of vector-borne diseases in temporally varying environments with spatial movements; data clustering in high dimensional spaces with application in gene expression data analysis; and asymptotic analysis of delay differential equations with seasonality and bifurcation analysis of state-dependent delay differential equations.
