I am requesting funds for an ion trap mass spectrometer with electrospray ionization source to carry out fundamental and applied ion-molecule chemistry of atomic metal anions. Preliminary results on a triple-quadrupole instrument are encouraging, but the existing platform is unsuitable for monitoring ion-molecule reactions as a function of time (to derive kinetics informatiom). This new infrastructure will be used by graduate and undergraduate students to probe the fundamental and analytical utility of atomic metal anions in mass spectrometry.
