The amplification of DNA through the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is a core activity in two collaborative research programs that focus on the evolutionary genomics of salmonid fishes. These programs train large numbes of highly qualified personnel at all levels who depend on continued access to PCR machines all day and everyday. Our existing fleet of six PCR machines is aging and four of the machines are over twelve years old. They have been repaired multiple times and now it is becoming counter-productive to put additional funds into their maintenance and repair. We are requesting funds to replace these aging workhorses.
