英文摘要
This grant supports the establishment of a Plant Phenotyping Laboratory for interdisciplinary collaborative research in plant biology. Plant biology in the Department of Biology at the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) integrates research from genes to ecosystems. Plant phenotyping contributes to this integration through the analysis of plant performance at the physiological, biochemical and metabolite levels. It provides the means to understand how plants communicate and respond to the ever changing environment. More recently, plant phenotyping has become a crucial link to validation of high throughput genome, transcriptome and proteome studies. The Plant Phenotpying Laboratory is critically essential to expand the departments existing expertise in characterizing plant phenotypes by adding the capacity for high-throughput characterization of plant performance and especially photosynthetic performance and carbon metabolism. The improved plant phenotyping laboratory will significantly enhance the departments collaborative research and help to expand collaborations with other institutions in Canada and internationally.
