Wind energy is fast growing world wide. It is predicted by the Canadian Wind Energy Association that wind energy will reach 20% of the total energy demand by 2025. With higher wind energy penetration, there are many challenges that need to be addressed, not only at the individual wind turbines but also at the wind farm level, including but not limited to: output variability, grid management and energy storage. The proposed research will focus on the development of innovative power converters, robust control strategy and reliable grid connection for wind farms.
