This project will investigate the performance of matrix power converters for high power high density front end (AC/DC) power supplies. The three phase to single phase matrix converter is a promising topology, which can bridge 3-phase grid to any single phase output with high frequency and without DC link. The topology is suitable for a AC/DC rectifiers for isolated high voltage DC distribution systems. The applications include the power supplies for data center, computer server clusters, future house with DC network, and many other applications where DC distributions are implemented. The project will evaluate the current technology of matrix converter based rectifiers, compare the different rectifiers' performance and recommend the design of matrix converter based rectifier for high power high density applications.
