项目摘要

For the past thirty years, researchers at UBC have been working to develop new technologies and strategies for wastewater treatment. This effort has resulted in several breakthroughs in such areas as phosphorus removal and recovery, membrane bioreactors and sludge conditioning. In the next phase of work, the UBC team is seeking to collaborate with wastewater treatment practitioners in a major research project that addresses two ambitious goals. The first goal is to produce an ultra-high quality effluent (in terms of conventional and emerging contaminants) for direct discharge or re-use, with simultaneous recovery of phosphorus, nitrogen and carbon. The second goal is to develop and demonstrate a wastewater treatment system that produces little, or no, byproduct sludge that requires further treatment and disposal. If one or both of these objectives can be achieved, the result will be a new paradigm for cost-efficient wastewater treatment.
