WETTABILITY AND ENHANCED OIL RECOVERY OF TIGHT OIL RESERVOIRS

Unconventional resources such as heavy oil, bitumen and conventional oil from tight reservoirs (tight oil) are becoming the primary source of crude oil for Canadians. As such the applicant's research plan evolves around the optimum exploitation of these resources. This proposal addresses the need to study mechanisms of displacement and production of tight oil. It is proposed to construct fundamental porous media models using multi-physics software and fundamental experiments with reservoir rock to study interfacial and displacement phenomena in tight oil reservoirs. The model will describe core analysis properties such as porosity, permeability, resistivity, capillary pressure, and relative permeability in media with adsorption and/or condensation. Also the process of imbibition in tight media will be investigated.
