Because living systems are highly dynamics, understanding cellular processes, that is understanding how a cell is working, will require studying and understanding protein motions. Here we are interested in the interplay between protein dynamics, that is how a protein might move across the cell through diffusion and interactions with other molecules, and the establishment of spatial concentration gradients, that is how this protein might end up being concentrated in certain areas of the cell. We propose to apply a range of fluorescence techniques adapted to the detect and quantification of protein localization and dynamics to answer two different questions, each about a cellular system where protein concentration gradients play a major role.
