My research group will study compact accreting X-ray sources. These are remnants of dead stars (neutron stars, white dwarfs, and black holes) that are tearing material from nearby stars. As the material falls down onto the remnant star, it heats up to temperatures of millions of degrees, emitting X-ray radiation. We focus particularly on X-ray sources in globular clusters, dense conglomerations of up to a few million old stars, which produce X-ray sources through interactions between stars.
