Numerical approaches to strongly correlated condensed matter systems

Our efforts are directed at some of the difficult quantum many-body problems that lie at the heart of contemporary condensed matter physics. My students and I have expertise in numerical approaches and a particular focus on systems of strongly interacting electrons. Much of our work is in the areas of Kondo physics and quantum magnetism. We're interested in the fate of localized electrons (spins) in a material environment, and we investigate what kinds of exotic ground states can be stabilized with various models and what kinds of quantum transitions between phases are possible.
