City logistics planning under sustainable freight regulations

Transport of goods is vital to sustain the economic growth of cities. The number of transport activities has grown tremendously over years giving rise to air pollution, noise etc. To cope up with this growing crisis, municipal administrations are implementing sustainable freight regulations e.g., restricted delivery timings, reserved delivery areas, full truck loading, congestion charging. Under these regulations, only smaller size fully loaded freight vehicles are allowed to enter urban areas during specific hours to carry out delivery operations. These regulations constitute an essential part of logistics planning in urban areas also called city logistics planning. Violations of these regulations results in additional costs for logistics operators.
