Numerical modeling of hydraulic systems involves various phenomena at small and large scales. Flows with moving boundaries are observed in many situations, such as coastal currents and rivers. Moving boundaries may be the result of water flow (e.g. tidal currents) or be caused by erosion and sedimentation. The numerical simulation of such flows is a challenging problem, and new computational schemes could significantly improve the accuracy of models. In this research, the new, conservative characteristic-based method (CCM) recently proposed by the applicant for free surface flows will be extended to the simulation of moving boundaries in two and three dimensions.
