Number Theory, one of the oldest yet deepest subjects in mathematics, studies the internal relations between integers. On the other hand, Representation theory is the branch of Mathematics that studies symmetry. The research program initiated by Robert Langlands in the 60's aims to reveal the hidden symmetries in number theory using representation theory, more specifically, the theory of automorphic representation.
