This proposal is to perform a market assessment of new microfuidic technology for screening genetic material (chromosomes) in diseased cells. FISH on a Chip has been developed by the applicants. Our goal is to commercialize it and bring its benefits to patients. Our goal is to build a fully functional prototype instrument to identify chromosome abnormalities in genetic diseases and cancer patients. This will help expand the the biomedical industry in Canada. The FISH on a Chip technology to be built bridges the nano world to the micro world with nanoliter intracellular volumes immobilized in micron scale channels. This project also provides highly qualified personnel (HQP) for this new sector. The expertise of the machine learning group is being brought into medical device development for commercialization, providing a compelling model for future interactions with the nano sector. Successful development of the fully automated instrument prototype, building on our construction of an earlier prototype during 2012, will begin the process of bringing research accomplishments to the community through commercialization of research innovations.
