项目摘要

This proposal outlines two related sub-surface studies of the Bluesky Formation in the area of Tsp. 81 to 84 Rge. 14 to 18w5m, (approximately 45 x 30 km) in northwest Alberta. The aims of the studies are to establish detailed ichnological, sedimentologic and stratigraphic frameworks for the Bluesky Formation and put forward a model for the distribution of reservoir and non-reservoir units within the study area. The proposed studies are: (1) an MSc project that focuses on a 10 km x 20 km subset that is aimed at establishing a detailed classification of the ichnology and sedimentology, and maps the distribution of reservoir therein; and, (2) a PhD project that is focused on the sequence stratigraphy of the larger (sub-regional) study area, considers sediment distribution in the context of the sedimentary environment, sediment sources, and contributes to the regional geological understanding of the Bluesky. For both projects, the dataset will consist of well-logs and core descriptions. Reservoir quality will be assessed on the basis of oil saturation and through microscopic analysis that will include thin-section microscopy and Scanning Electron Microscopy. The data will be integrated in the software Petrel, so that spatial relationships can be observed and interpreted.
