With distributed generation added to the grid, a competitive working environment with a cost effective power delivery system has been created. As a result, there are changes in both the thermal and electrical stresses on the system components due to increasingly added power electronic devices from interconnected renewable sources. Furthermore, the miniaturization of electronic devices and the compaction of electrical power equipment have created new requirements and challenges with respect to energy storage, packaging and electrical insulation. In this regard, functionalized nanomaterials have been gradually attracting more attention due to the large specific surface area to volume ratio of nanofillers. Hence, diagnosing the insulation strength of power components and evaluating the performance of newly synthesized materials before their acceptance for practical use are important.
