Precipitation hardening of high gamma-prime polycrystalline, directionally solidified and single crystal nickel based superalloys have been extensively used for the manufacture of high pressure turbine (HPT) blades and nozzle guide vanes (NGV) for several decades. However, despite their remarkable creep properties these engine components are prone to thermo-mechanical fatigue (TMF) cracking, oxidation and sulfidation due to severe service conditions. Thus, numerous welding technologies have been developed for repair of turbine engine components. Recently, Liburdi has developed new alloys (patents pending) to be used with laser welding technology for repair of these turbine blades.
