Canada's manufacturing sector has suffered a great setback in the recent economic downturn. Tool, die and mold (TDM), the automotive and the machine parts industry have all shrunk during this time. Canada is still a net exporter of industrial molds and is known for manufacturing precision molds. This leadership position is challenged as the Canadian mold makers are losing the edge to other countries where advanced machines and software are now easily available. This coupled with low cost labor is hurting the Canadian mold making industry. The story is the same in all industries.
